Native Restaurant is a rare jewel tucked
away on Lenox Avenue just above Central Park North. The front
window panels are retractable, which allows diners and drinkers
to people-watch, and enjoy an outside dining feel. On a hot
summer Friday evening, the place is packed with a hip, young
crowd.
The staff is meticulous and provides
friendly and professional service. The patrons are multicultural
and just as relaxed as they are formal. Native is a neighborhood
bistro that rivals those of other popular Manhattan eateries.
The food is moderately priced and
consistent with the popularity of kicked up comfort food. If you
are looking for a soul food chicken and waffles joint, then you
are going to the wrong place. The menu boasts beef, chicken and
a few seafood dishes. A wide variety of popular sides, including
jazzed up mashed potatoes and a formidable version of macaroni
and cheese, ensures that everyone can find something to please
their palate. The soups are hardy, and daily and weekend
specials round out the menu.
My favorite place to sit was at the bar,
where you can get a great drink, tasty appetizers, and
intelligent, heated debate. Ask Boi, a veteran cocktail slinger,
for his signature drink, the "Designated Driver". Different
strokes for different folks keeps the forum going at the
sometimes crowded dining and cocktail area.
An elegant yet laid back spot with great
nightlife, Native is perfect choice for impressing a date or
hanging out with friends.
